JIO company was registered in Ambawadi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat as ‘Infotel Broadband Services Limited’ (IBSL).
In June 2010, Reliance Industries (RIL) bought a 95% stake in IBSL for ₹4,800 crore. On June 19, 2010, IBPSL ceased to be a private limited company and became a public limited company. On January 22, 2013, the company was renamed Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.
