Indira Gandhi was expelled from the House and arrested in the ‘Jeep Scam’ scandal of 1977 for subverting the powers of Parliament. Morarji Desai’s government used privileges and contempt of parliament to send her to jail. Along with her, Sanjay Gandhi was also sent to Tihar Jail. After a week, they were both released.
