Manipur was officially integrated into Indian Union.

On October 15th 1949, Princely state of Manipur was officially integrated into Indian Union, through the Manipur Merger Agreement.

The agreement was signed on September 21, 1949, by V.P. Menon on behalf of the Governor-General of India and Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh, the ruler of Manipur.

The signing took place at Shillong, and it formalized Manipur’s integration into the Indian Union as a Part C state.

The merger was controversial, as Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh claimed he signed the agreement under duress.

Despite the controversy, the event marked Manipur’s full accession to India and its incorporation into the post-independence Indian state.
