The Poona Pact Established Reserved Seats for the Depressed Classes.

On 24 September 1932, the Poona Pact was signed in Poona (now Pune) by B. R. Ambedkar, representing the Depressed Classes, and Madan Mohan Malaviya, representing the caste-Hindu side, following Mahatma Gandhi’s fast against separate electorates.

The Pact replaced separate electorates with joint electorates and 148 reserved seats in provincial legislatures for the Depressed Classes.
