25 paise and all lower denomination coins ceased to be legal tender in India.
On 20 April 2011, the Reserve Bank of India announced that the Government of India had decided to withdraw 25 paise and all lower denomination coins from circulation with effect from 30 June 2011.
On 30 June 2011, 25 paise, along with all lower denomination coins, officially ceased to be legal tender in India.
The Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India withdrew these coins because their production cost and metal value had exceeded their face value.
As a result, they had become economically unviable to produce and circulate.
