aHUS Awareness Day
aHUS Awareness Day is observed each year on September 24th.
It is a global campaign to raise visibility about atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), a rare and potentially life-threatening kidney disease.
First launched in 2015 by the aHUS Alliance—a volunteer-led network of patient advocacy groups spanning more than 30 countries.
The day shines a light on the challenges faced by patients and families, promotes vital research, and shares educational resources and support.
The date was chosen to mark the 60th anniversary of the first medical description of hemolytic uremic syndrome in 1955.
