On 13 April 1929, the Chiplun session of the Bhartiya Bahishkrit Samaj Sewak Sangh was held in Chiplun.

It marked an important stage in the shift from ritual rights to economic justice.

Ambedkar condemned the Khoti system as a form of exploitation and stressed self-respect through struggle.

The movement helped bring together sections of different communities and encouraged political action.

It later influenced the formation of the Independent Labour Party and laid the groundwork for land reforms.

Approximately 8,000 men and women attended the session.

The event took place in a tense atmosphere, as orthodox groups feared a repeat of the Mahad Satyagraha.

Many locals reportedly closed their wells to prevent “pollution” by the attendees.
