Dr. B. R. Ambedkar declared at the Yeola Conference that he would not die as a Hindu due to caste discrimination.

On 13 October 1935, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar made a historic declaration at the Yeola Conference in Nashik, Maharashtra.

There, before a gathering of about 10,000 people, he made a powerful declaration: “Though I was born a Hindu, I will not die as a Hindu.”

This marked a turning point, as he withdrew from reform efforts like the Kalaram Temple Satyagraha and rejected attempts to change Hindu society from within.

The declaration inspired the Dalit community and led to discussions on alternative religions.

Over the next 21 years, Ambedkar studied religions like Islam, Christianity, and Sikhism.

He finally converted to Buddhism on 14 October 1956 in Nagpur

Today, the Yeola site is known as Mukti Bhoomi, a memorial that honors this historic moment.
