Ambedkar initially opposed the idea of building the Patit Pavan Temple.

On 12 April 1929, issue of Bahishkrit Bharat, B. R. Ambedkar initially opposed the construction of the Patit Pavan Temple, ratnagiri.

He believed such temples would later be called ‘temples of untouchables’.

From November 1930 to March 1931, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar wrote articles in Kesari.

In these writings, he opposed untouchability, but did not reject the chaturvarna system.
Ambedkar was aware of these views.

On 18 February 1933, Babasaheb Ambedkar wrote a letter to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, appreciating his efforts to eradicate untouchability.

Ambedkar thanked Savarkar for inviting him to a temple event in Ratnagiri.

He said he could not attend because of his busy schedule.

He said the chaturvarna system must be destroyed for real equality.

Ambedkar called the idea unnecessary and harmful.

He called Savarkar’s continued use of the term “unfortunate” and hoped he would abandon it.
