Ambedkar was appointed as Labour Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council.

On 20 July 1942, B. R. Ambedkar joined the Viceroy’s Executive Council as its Labour Member.

On 27 November 1942, B. R. Ambedkar introduced the 8-hour workday for workers in India during the 7th session of the Indian Labour Conference in New Delhi.

On 29 July 1943, B. R. Ambedkar introduced the Mines Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 1943 bill to remove ambiguities in the Mines Maternity Benefit Act, 1941 and strengthen maternity protections for women working in mines.
