Arun Netravali (Arun Narayan Netravali) an Indian–American computer engineer, author.

Pioneer of digital video and HDTV technology.

President of Bell Laboratories.

He worked at NASA on Space Shuttle program technologies.

He played a major role in developing video compression technologies that became the foundation for MPEG standards used in digital TV, HDTV, DVDs, and streaming services.

He authored more than 170 technical papers, held over 70 patents, and co-authored important books on digital picture processing and communication systems.

Arun Netravali received several prestigious honors including the Padma Bhushan, the U.S. National Medal of Technology, the Marconi Prize, and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal.
