Azerbaijan Independence Day

Azerbaijan Independence Day is celebrated annually on May 28th.

On May 28, 1918, after the collapse of the Russian Empire and amidst the chaos of World War I, Azerbaijani leaders declared independence in Tiflis (now Tbilisi, Georgia). Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) is the first secular and democratic parliamentary republic in the Muslim world. Until 2021, it was marked as Republic Day. In October 2021, it was renamed and became Independence Day.
