B R Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India.
On 14 May 2025, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, succeeding Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
He became the first Buddhist and only the second Dalit (Scheduled Caste) to hold the office of Chief Justice of India, after Justice K. G. Balakrishnan.
