Babasaheb Ambedkar Burns Manusmriti to Oppose Untouchability.

On 25 December 1927, opposing untouchability, Babasaheb Ambedkar and some of his followers publicly burned the Manusmriti.

The event took place in Mahad, a small town in Raigad district of the Konkan region, Maharashtra, in the presence of several thousand people.

This village is located about 150 kilometers south of Mumbai.

Since then, Dalits and Ambedkarites observe that day as 'Manusmriti Dahan Din' (Manusmriti Burning Day) and annually burn copies of the Manusmriti.
