Bimala Prasad Chaliha an Indian freedom fighter, politician.

3rd Chief Minister of Assam.

Active participant in Quit India Movement against the British Government and was imprisoned.

He was elected Chief Minister for three consecutive terms.

During his tenure, the Assam Official Language Act (1960) made Assamese the sole official language of the state.

He strongly opposed the division of Assam into smaller states like Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya.

Bimala Prasad Chaliha played a key role in protecting tea plantation workers through the Plantations Labour Act and related rules.

He addressed the issue of illegal migration from East Pakistan and took steps to deport illegal entrants.
