King George V had formally announced the shifting of the Capital of India from Calcutta to Delhi.
On December 11, 1911, the British colonial administration held a grand Delhi Durbar, a major event in the nation’s history.
During his address at the Durbar, King George V proposed the momentous political decision to move the capital from Kolkata (then Calcutta) to Delhi.
The proposal was enthusiastically received and quickly won unanimous support within British circles.
The following day, December 12, 1911, before a crowd of over 80,000 people, King George V officially declared that the capital of India would be relocated to Delhi.
