Indian National Congress passed the Purna Swaraj resolution.
The Indian National Congress passed the Purna Swaraj (complete independence) resolution on 19 December 1929 at its Lahore session.
This declaration formally made complete independence from British rule the official goal of the Congress.
After adopting the resolution Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian tricolour at the Ravi river in Lahore on 31 December 1929 as a symbolic act of defiance.
The Congress then decided to observe 26 January 1930 as “Independence Day” (Purna Swaraj Day) to mobilize the country for full freedom.
