Thousands of Dalit followers of Ambedkar gathered to protest and demonstrate around the Kalaram Temple premises.

On March 2, 1930, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar launched the Kalaram Temple Satyagraha (the temple entry movement) in Nasik with a large, disciplined procession.

Ambedkar explicitly framed it as a struggle against caste discrimination and for the dignity and equal rights of Dalits, not just a question of entering one temple.

3 March 1930, about 15,000 Dalit followers picketed and demonstrated around the temple; in response, the Bombay government imposed Section 144 and ringed the temple with police/barricades.

Contemporary descriptions emphasize that the protest was disciplined and non‑violent, with volunteers organized in groups and instructed in non‑violence.
