Denmark Constitution Day
Denmark Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag) is observed annually on June 5th.
It is to commemorate the signing of the Danish Constitution in 1849 by King Frederik VII, which transitioned Denmark from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy, marking the birth of Danish democracy.
The day also honors the current constitution, signed on June 5, 1953, and other revisions (1866, 1915, 1920), with the 1915 revision notably granting women suffrage. It’s considered Denmark’s closest equivalent to a national day, though it’s not an official public holiday.
