Disability Day of Mourning

Disability Day of Mourning is observed every year on March 1.

It remembers disabled people who were killed by their caregivers and highlights how such murders are often excused or minimised.

The first vigil was held in 2012, promoted by groups like the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and Not Dead Yet.

It began as a grassroots effort within the disability community and has become an important event in the disability rights movement.
