On 7 March 1987, Sunil Gavaskar made history as the first player in the world to cross 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

The feat occurred during the fourth Test of a five-match series against Pakistan at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.

He reached the landmark by scoring his 58th run of the innings with a single (often described as a late cut) off the bowling of Ijaz Faqih.
