Hindi name of the ‘House of the People’ was adopted as the ‘Lok Sabha’ in Parliament of India.

On 14 May 1954, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, G. V. Mavalankar, announced in the House that the “House of the People” would thereafter be known as “Lok Sabha”.

Although the First Lok Sabha had been constituted on 17 April 1952, and both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha held their first sittings on 13 May 1952, the official Hindi names for the two Houses were adopted about two years later.

On 28 May 2023, the new Parliament of India building was inaugurated in New Delhi.

On 18 September 2023, the Special Session began in the old building, now called Samvidhan Sadan, with a discussion on parliamentary history.

On 19 September 2023, Both Houses moved to the new building and began proceedings there the same day.
