India Enacted the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act

On 11 September 1989, the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 received presidential assent in India, establishing stronger legal protections against atrocities and discrimination targeting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
