Indian Army Day

Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15th in India.

It commemorates Lieutenant General Kodandera M. Cariappa taking over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.

He assumed charge from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.
