Indian Golf Union (IGUn) was formed.

The IGUn is the apex body of golf in the country and is responsible for the promotion and development of the sport in India.

It began with only six golf clubs and today represents 194 golf clubs, with many more under planning.

Some senior golfers in Calcutta, with the support of golfers in Delhi, Mumbai, and Madras, took the initiative to form the Indian Golf Union on 20 December 1955.

The Union was formed to promote the game of golf in India and to maintain high standards of the sport in every possible way.
