Indian Railway Week – 2nd Day
Indian Railway Week is observed every year from April 10 to April 16.
It is to commemorate the first passenger train journey in India, which ran on April 16, 1853, between Bombay (Bori Bunder) and Thane.
It marks the historic 34-km journey operated by three locomotives—Sahib, Sultan, and Sindh—laying the foundation of India’s railway network.
The Indian Railways recognizes outstanding employees by conferring prestigious awards such as the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar for exceptional service.
The occasion also includes performance reviews by zonal railways and production units, along with planning for future improvements.
