India’s first talkie (sound) film ‘Alam Ara’ released.

On 14 March 1931, Alam Ara, a Hindustani-language historical fantasy film directed and produced by Ardeshir Irani, was released.

It became India’s first talkie, marking the end of the silent era of Indian cinema.

India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra, was a silent film released in 1913, while Alam Ara (1931) holds the distinction of being the first Indian sound film.
