India’s first talkie (sound) film ‘Alam Ara’ released.


“Alam Ara” meaning “Ornament of the World,” is a 1931 Indian Hindustani-language historical fantasy film, directed and produced by Ardeshir Irani, and is significant as India’s first talkie, ending the silent era of Indian cinema.

“Raja Harishchandra” is considered India’s first feature film, a silent film released in 1913, while “Alam Ara” is India’s first talkie (sound) film, released in 1931.
