International Day of Parliamentarism

International Day of Parliamentarism, also known as World Parliament Day, is observed annually on 30 June.

It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 through Resolution A/RES/72/278.

The date commemorates the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on 30 June 1889, the world's first permanent multilateral political organization.

The observance recognizes the vital role of parliaments in democracy, representative government, accountability, lawmaking, and the protection of human rights.

It also promotes stronger, more inclusive, transparent, innovative, and effective parliaments that better serve the people.

The day is marked through parliamentary debates, conferences, public outreach programmes, educational activities, and initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and citizen participation.
