International Gaucher Day

International Gaucher Day is observed every year on October 1st.

It was launched in 2014 by the European Gaucher Alliance (EGA).

Gaucher disease, a rare lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency in the enzyme glucocerebrosidase.

This leads to the buildup of fatty substances (glucocerebrosides) in organs like the spleen, liver, bone marrow, and sometimes the brain, resulting in symptoms such as anemia, fatigue, enlarged organs, bone pain, and in severe cases, neurological issues.
