International Migrants Day

International Migrants Day is observed annually on 18 December.

It is to highlight the rights, dignity, and contributions of migrants worldwide.

The day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000 and commemorates the adoption of the 1990 UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

It draws global attention to the challenges migrants face and stresses the responsibility of states to ensure safe migration, equal treatment, and respect for human rights.
