International Moon Day

International Moon Day is observed annually on July 20.

The observance commemorates the first human landing on the Moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969, celebrating one of humanity's greatest achievements in space exploration, lunar exploration, astronomy, science, technology, innovation, and space research. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2021.

International Moon Day promotes the peaceful exploration and sustainable use of outer space, encourages international cooperation in space science, and raises awareness of the Moon's scientific, cultural, educational, and inspirational significance while supporting STEM education, space technology, space missions, lunar research, and future Moon exploration.
