International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day is observed every year on 21 February.

It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999 and first observed in 2000.

The day promotes linguistic and cultural diversity.

It commemorates the students killed in 1952 in Dhaka during the Bengali Language Movement.

People celebrate it by promoting and preserving their native languages.
