Jawaharlal Nehru University was constituted.
On December 22, 1966, the Jawaharlal-Nehru-University Act, 1966, was passed by the Indian Parliament, receiving the assent of the President of India. This act laid the legal foundation for the establishment of JNU in New Delhi, India, although the act came into force later on April 22, 1969.
