He credited for coining the phrase ’Swaraj is my Birthright and I shall have it’, which was later popularised by Tilak.

He played an important role in promoting the public celebration of Sarvajanik Ganpati (now known as Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi), a movement earlier started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak to unite people during the freedom struggle.
