Kandukuri Veeresalingam arranged the first publicly organized widow remarriage in the Andhra (Telugu) region.

In Rajahmundry, Kandukuri Veeresalingam arranged the widow marriage of nine-year-old Gouramma to Gogulapati Sriramulu.

This was the first publicly organized widow marriage in the Telugu region (then part of the Madras Presidency) on 11 December 1881.

This marriage gave rise to great agitation.

All those who went to the wedding were ostracized from the society.

This was about 25 years after the first legally recognized widow remarriage under the 1856 Act in Calcutta on 7 December 1856.
