Madhu Sapre became the 2nd runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant.
On 9 May 1992, 41st Miss Universe pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand. Madhu became the first Indian to place in the Top 3 at Miss Universe, finishing as 2nd runner-up (winner : Michelle McLean from Namibia, 1st runner up : Paola Turbay from Colombia), a groundbreaking moment for India.
