Manipur was formed as a state of India.

On October 15, 1949, Manipur was integrated into the Indian Union through the Manipur Merger Agreement.

The agreement was signed in Shillong by V.P. Menon and Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh.

On January 21, 1972, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur became full-fledged states of India under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971.

Every year on January 21st, Manipur celebrates Statehood Day.
