Manipur was officially integrated into Indian Union.
On October 15, 1949, the princely state of Manipur was officially integrated into the Indian Union through the Manipur Merger Agreement.
The agreement had been signed earlier, on September 21, 1949, by V.P. Menon for the Governor-General of India and Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh, the ruler of Manipur.
The signing took place in Shillong and made Manipur a Part C state of India.
The merger was controversial, as Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh later claimed he had signed under duress.
Despite the controversy, this event marked Manipur’s formal accession to India and its integration into the post-independence Indian state.
