On 1971, Maruti Motors Limited established by Sanjay Gandhi.

On February 24, 1981, the company was officially incorporated and registered as Maruti Udyog Limited.

On 2 October 1982, Joint venture and license agreement signed with Suzuki Motor Corporation.

On  14 December 1983, First Maruti 800 rolled out and delivered to customers.

On 17 September 2007, Maruti Udyog Limited officially changed its name to Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
