She was a recipient of the Abanindra Prize, the Press Award, and the Excellence Award from the Kolkata Ladies’ Study Group.

One of the earliest Indian women to establish a major career in sculpture during an era when the field was overwhelmingly dominated by men.

First modern woman artist to successfully adapt and elevate the ancient tribal Dhokra (lost-wax casting) technique into a sophisticated contemporary art form.

Meera Mukherjee is often described as a pioneering “artist-anthropologist” for her deep engagement with tribal craftsmanship and artistic traditions.

She also held a fellowship from the Ministry of Culture.
