Mukti Bhoomi in Yeola, Maharashtra, a Buddhist memorial and museum dedicated to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, inaugurated.
On 2 April 2014, Mukti Bhoomi (Land of Liberation) in Yeola, Maharashtra, was inaugurated as a Buddhist memorial and museum.
It is dedicated to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, commemorating his 1935 declaration to leave Hinduism and his later conversion to Buddhism in 1956.
On 13 October 1935, Babasaheb Ambedkar held an important conference in Yeola, a town in Nashik district, Maharashtra.
There, he withdrew from the Kalaram Temple Satyagraha and made a powerful declaration: “Though I was born a Hindu, I will not die a Hindu.”
Over the next 21 years, Ambedkar studied religions like Islam, Christianity, and Sikhism.
He finally converted to Buddhism on 14 October 1956 in Nagpur.
