National Atomic Veterans Day - USA

National Atomic Veterans Day is observed annually on 16 July in the United States.

The day honors Atomic Veterans—U.S. military personnel and civilian participants who took part in atmospheric nuclear weapons tests, the occupation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki following World War II, and other nuclear-related military operations.

The observance was first established in 1983 through an Act of the U.S. Congress recognizing their service and sacrifice.

It also highlights the long-term health effects many veterans experienced due to radiation exposure and promotes remembrance, continued recognition, support, and benefits.

The day is marked through memorial ceremonies, veterans' gatherings, public tributes, educational programmes, and awareness campaigns across the United States.
