National Civil Service Day

National Civil Service Day or Civil Services Day is observed annually on April 21 in India.

It is to honor civil servants who form the backbone of the nation’s administration, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and others.

The date commemorates April 21, 1947, when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, addressed probationary officers at Metcalfe House, Delhi, calling civil servants the “steel frame of India.” This speech inspired the formal establishment of the day in 2006, with the first celebration at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, emphasizing their role in nation-building.
