National Epilepsy Day

National Epilepsy Day in India is observed annually on 17 November.

The day aims to reduce stigma and spread correct information about epilepsy.

The Indian Epilepsy Association (IEA) decided this date in December 1990 at its Indore General Body Meeting.

The first National Epilepsy Day was observed in 1991.

The Epilepsy Foundation of India (EFI) did not establish the day.

EFI was founded later in 2009 by Dr. Nirmal Surya.

EFI now actively promotes awareness, which causes confusion in media reports.
