Pensioners Day – India

Pensioners’ Day, sometimes informally called National Pensioners’ Day, is unofficially observed in India every year on 17 December.

It marks the significant progress made in ensuring dignity, equality, and social security for pensioners who have contributed to the nation’s growth.

On 17 December 1982, the Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark judgment affirming that pension is a right ensuring dignity and decency for retired employees.

The day is observed in grateful remembrance of late D.S. Nakara, whose sustained legal battle brought dignity, fairness, and respect to India’s pensioner community.
