Orkut, a social media networking website, was launched by Google.

On 24 January 2004, Orkut was created by Google engineer Orkut Büyükkökten.

The site became extremely popular in countries like India and Brazil, where people used it to make friends, join communities, and share messages called “scraps.”

Although it was an American product, Orkut left a lasting impact on early social networking and online communities.

Google officially shut down Orkut on September 30, 2014.
