PKD Awareness Day

PKD Awareness Day observed annually on September 4th.

It is dedicated to raising awareness about Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys, often leading to kidney failure.

PKD Awareness Day aims to educate the public, inspire action, and support research for treatments and a cure.

PKD affects millions worldwide, with Autosomal Dominant PKD (ADPKD) being the most common form, impacting about 600,000 Americans and 12.4 million people globally, while Autosomal Recessive PKD (ARPKD) is rarer, affecting 1 in 25,000 children.

Activities include wearing teal, sharing stories, participating in Walks for PKD, donating, and advocating for legislative support.

The PKD Foundation and other organizations drive these efforts to fund research and build community support.
