Prasar Bharati came into existence.

The Prasar Bharati Act was passed by Parliament in 1990.

The government brought the Act into force through a notification on 15 September 1997.

Prasar Bharati officially began functioning on 23 November 1997.

On that day, the assets and employees of All India Radio and Doordarshan were transferred to the new corporation.

This made Prasar Bharati India’s autonomous public service broadcaster.
