Victoria
Alexandrina Victoria a British empress.
Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Following the Revolt of 1857, Queen Victoria assumed direct control of British India after the dissolution of the East India Company.
During the reign of Queen Victoria, the British Indian military was reorganized under direct Crown control, while the first modern universities and High Courts were also established in India.
The Koh-i-Noor, a 105.6-carat diamond, was given to Queen Victoria after the British annexation of Punjab in 1849.
Foundress of several prestigious honours and orders, including the Victoria Cross, Order of the Star of India, Royal Order of Victoria and Albert, Order of the Crown of India, Order of the Indian Empire, Royal Red Cross, Distinguished Service Order, and the Royal Victorian Order.
She held the titles ‘Empress of India’, ‘Queen of the United Kingdom’, ‘Defender of the Faith’, ‘Grandmother of Europe’.
